In the week of the American election, a week where global anxiety has perhaps probably never been higher, the Teen Yoga Foundation’s volunteers shone steadily and brightly, highlighting the benefits of yoga and mindfulness for mental health and wellbeing to the delegates at the 10th Annual Mental Health & Wellbeing in Schools Conference in London. Information about Teen Yoga trained teachers and courses, retreats and the work of the Teen Yoga Foundation was shared with a very receptive crowd of teachers, school decision makers and representatives from other organisations that support wellbeing and mental health in UK schools.
Alongside speakers from Mental First Aid UK, The Childrens and Young People’s Mental Health Coalition, Place2Be and other developmental support charities who shared their perspective and experiences, behavioural scientists, educational consultants and psychologist educated us on current trends, policies and opportunities.
At the Teen Yoga Foundation booth our own wisdom about the teenage brain, body and how yoga and mindfulness can support young people in education and our experiences in schools working with both staff and pupils was met by a very receptive audience who were delighted to find academic papers and evidence based studies to support the benefits we explained.
We hope to return next year!
Thanks to our volunteers, and to Louise Renwick for this report.
